April Fools’ Day is still a few weeks away, but you can still get your sillies out by celebrating National Goof Off Day on Saturday, March 22. Kids are naturally and amazingly goofy so this holiday will be a cinch to celebrate!
What does being silly mean to you? I think of vibrant colors, wild food combos and silly freeze dances. Kids will enjoy celebrating with you, however you decide to celebrate the day. Let out your inner child and be goofy!

Create Funny Face or Goofy Combination Pizzas

Silly faces are the epitome of goofy and what better way to show off silly faces than by putting them on a pizza. Take some crusts, full-size or mini, and whatever toppings you would like, and just go to town! Kids will enjoy fashioning their pizza in whatever style they choose. You can go simple or as extravagant as you’d wish!
Pepperoni for eyes, an olive for a nose and a sliced pepper for a mouth is all you need to make a smiley face pizza. But you don’t have to stop there. What if, instead of funny faces, you do weird and strange toppings? Peanut butter and jelly pizza? Marshmallows and chicken nugget pizza? The opportunities are endless. While these strange combinations may turn out to be yucky — you’ve achieved the ultimate success of silliness.
Jump in puddles (Make your own if there’s no rain)
Are you normally a ‘no splashing in puddles’ kind of parent? (*Raises own hand.) Today is a great day, barring cold weather, to say yes to muddy puddles!
Take water and create some puddles in your yard for the kids to splash in. This will get messy! I recommend rain gear or clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. If you have sandcastle molds at home, take them and make a mud castle. Gather rocks and shells to add some flair to your castle. Take pictures of your creations!
The goal here is to splash and make the biggest mess you can. I recommend, “Lets Go Puddling” by Emma Perry as a library read to go with all the puddle jumping.
Tell Silly Jokes
Today is the perfect day to tell all the dad jokes (or mom jokes) you want. You may even be out-joked by kid jokes from the youngsters. Here’s a few jokes to get you started.
What’s a kitten’s favorite color?
Purrr-ple
How do bees get to school?
A school buzz
What does a ghost eat for dinner?
Spoooo-ghetti
What kind of tree fits in your hand?
