Summer Reading Info Sheet (PDF)
This year, Summer Reading goes wild with stories about animals, both real and imagined. Beginning Tuesday, June 1, you’ll be able to download reading and activity trackers from the library’s website, or you can request printed Summer Reading materials at your library branch or bookmobile stop or via curbside pickup.
Starting Tuesday, June 8, you can submit your entry into the “Pet Photo Contest.” Share your your cutest pet photo for a chance to win a gift card to a local bookstore. In June, we’ll also be hosting a podcasting workshop for beginners and launching a two-part introduction to Dungeons & Dragons (5th edition).
In early July, the library will have a new online escape room and we’ll also be premiering a new video with our very own Jedi Master Dana. Her instruction will take you from Padawan to Jedi Knight in no time!
Last, but certainly not least, we will have three special take-and-make programs for teens this summer. In June, you can pick up makeup supplies to transform yourself into a beautiful merperson. A couple weeks later, you can channel your inner engineer to create an LED map of Missouri. Finally, in July, we’ll distribute supplies for you and your bestie to create mini paintings together.
Of course, the heart of Summer Reading is, well, reading. We are challenging youth ages 12-18 to read for 15 hours, submit three book reviews and do seven library-related activities. Complete the challenge and you’ll receive a free book. You’ll also be entered into a drawing for other fun rewards including an Amazon Fire tablet.
Summer Reading begins June 1 and continues through August 14. Be sure to sign up for our teen program newsletter to receive advance notice about these and other awesome events!
