In August, we asked our patrons to share what they love about their library! We received some wonderful comments, and each month we will feature quotes from our patrons and library staff, highlighting the things that make their buildings so special. This month, Lisa G. is our guest staff member from the Holts Summit Public Library.
The first time I walked through the door at the Holts Summit Public Library it felt good. You know how some places have a positive energy? I’ve been to shops or other buildings where I just felt the urge to get my business done and hurry out. Not so at HSPL! The space is bright and welcoming — it says, “sit, stay a while.” The faces at the desk say the same! (I hope so; I’m one of those faces). There are spaces to gather and corners to be private and finish that term paper that just can’t get done at home. There is even a hint of a forest if you don’t mind Pooh and Piglet peering at you from the branches.
While our collection is confined to one large room, our branch offers over 16,000 items to choose from. Looking for a book? You’ll probably find something, but if you don’t, we will get it for you from another branch or another library. You can pick up inside or in our 24/7 lockers.
Not wanting a book? Check out a movie, a magazine or a music CD. Then there is a whole virtual selection which is very handy when you can’t get here, but don’t be a stranger. We love to see you! There is a lot that is new about libraries these days, but what isn’t new is the welcoming feeling you get when you walk in.
Just in case you missed it, last month we featured the Callaway County Public Library in Fulton.
