As part of the Daniel Boone Regional Library’s phased-in reopening plans, library patrons can place holds online or by calling their library, and pick up their requests at designated curbside pickup spots. “Our library buildings will remain closed and bookmobiles won’t be making visits yet, but we are offering curbside pickup beginning May 18 for holds at the Callaway County, Columbia and Southern Boone County Public Libraries. People in southern Callaway and in northern Boone can pick up holds from the Library-To-Go lockers in Holts Summit and Hallsville,” said Margaret Conroy, executive director of the Daniel Boone Regional Library.

Last fall, the Daniel Boone Regional Library invited the community to nominate books for One Read 2020, the community-wide reading program. In January, a panel of community members reviewed the 160 suggestions and narrowed that list down to 10, and then chose two books to present for a public vote. You cay vote online at oneread.org for your preferred choice through April 24.

This year’s choice is between “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles and “The Last Days of Night” by Graham Moore.

All Daniel Boone Regional Library facilities and services will be closed indefinitely beginning Tuesday, March 17 due to concerns for public and staff safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, due dates will be extended, holds will be suspended and the book drops will be locked.

As concern about COVID-19 (the disease caused by the new coronavirus), is growing, I would like to assure you that the Daniel Boone Regional Library is committed to the health and safety of our patrons and our staff, as well as to keeping the community informed with links to verified information about the disease. Visit our topic guide for links to the most up-to-date information.

Some of our program partners have canceled or postponed events scheduled to be held at our branches. At this time, DBRL is continuing to hold our own programs. If a decision is made to suspend programs and close meeting rooms, notifications will be made directly to those registered, as well as on our website and social media platforms.

In our recently concluded community survey, 83% of respondents said they used the library at least once in the past year. We also asked “Why haven’t you used any library services during the past year?” and 27% cited “I don’t have time/too busy.” We can assume that this applies to many who only used the library a few times in the past year, too.

“With busier family schedules and growing numbers of senior citizens, there is an increased need for the library to expand what we’re already doing to take library materials and services out to where our patrons are,” said Margaret Conroy, Daniel Boone Regional Library executive director. “It’s our next big initiative.”

Debra Winter is the newest member of the DBRL Board of Trustees. She brings a love of reading, commitment to serving her community and professional financial expertise to the rest of the talent represented on the board. She formerly worked for the Callaway County auditor’s office and is now the purchasing director for Callaway County.

The library is hosting two public forums on Proposition L. The library executive director Margaret Conroy will talk about the need for the library levy and will answer questions.

The current funding level is no longer sufficient to keep pace with the changing needs of the community. The library is serving more people and offering more services than ever before.
