The library is now part of Columbia’s Adopt-A-Spot Litter Control program, so you’ll be seeing more of us outside the library doing what we can to improve our environment. DBRL’s Sustainability Committee and other library staff met Saturday, July 1 for the first quarterly trash pickup event. We collected 10 bags of trash along the blocks defined by Broadway, Garth, Walnut and Providence Road.
The library identified “Demonstrate commitment to environmental sustainability” as one of our goal statements in our recently adopted three-year strategic plan. Adopting an area for litter control is just one step toward achieving our goal. When trash gets picked up from the street it is prevented from polluting our soil and waterways.
The City of Columbia Volunteer Programs division made serving our community this way very easy. Thanks to them for all they do!
