A Note From the Director

Margaret Conroy, Executive Director of the Daniel Boone Regional LibraryThanks to you, our community members, and other donors in Boone and Callaway Counties for helping to make 2023 a banner fundraising year for our Foundation! With the receipt of a large unexpected bequest, the DBRL Foundation had the best year in its 37-year history. In addition to this generous gift, the Foundation’s CoMoGives campaign exceeded its goal, and, with other personal gifts, the Foundation helped raise over $70,000 towards support for our library programs and services. Even in these tough economic times, our patrons demonstrate their gratitude with generous giving.

Tax dollars support the basic operating costs of the library, but the extra dollars help stretch tax funds to provide programs such as 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, Brainfuse, Excel Adult High School, library field trips for second-graders, free book giveaways and other reading programs. Your donations help us go the extra mile, making Daniel Boone Regional Library one of the best library systems in the state!

People choose to support the Foundation for many reasons, chief among them is the belief in the importance of the role of a public library as a free public institution. Our community has faith in DBRL’s ability to provide and curate needed information in many formats, making the world’s knowledge accessible to all. As one donor put it, “As a small business owner, a parent, and an active volunteer in Columbia, I know how much this library and its services mean to our community. We made a donation… to help the DBRL Foundation reach its fundraising goal and continue to offer amazing outreach services to youth across Boone and Callaway Counties. The library truly is the gift that keeps on giving!” Another grateful patron simply said DBRL was “a gem in the community.”

We agree, and we couldn’t do it without you — thank you!

Margaret M. Conroy, Executive Director of the Daniel Boone Regional Library
